Sound Insulation Testing

What do we do for you?

  • ‍We carry out Airborne and Impact Sound Insulation Testing in accordance with Part E of the Building Regulations and, where required, BREEAM. This is a mandatory requirement for new and converted dwellings where there are party walls or separating floors
  • Sound insulation testing of partitions in other building types, including schools and offices
  • Site testing of existing buildings, to assess current levels of sound insulation and to allow for the design of remedial measures where the performance needs to be increased

How quick are we?

Our team of skilled and experienced sound insulation testers and acoustic consultants, all degree-qualified and with accreditation from the Institute of Acoustics and the ANC, can normally be with you on site within 7 days of being commissioned. Reports of results are normally supplied within 1-2 working days of the testing visit.

What if there are problems?

As a Chartered Building Consultancy with nearly 25 years experience of building acoustics (est.1994) including conducting sound insulation tests in all types of buildings, we are able to address any problems that may be discovered and provide remedial solutions to overcome them.

Three members of our team have also been appointed as Robust Details Inspectors or Senior Inspectors and have vast experience of sound insulation issues in buildings.

What do our clients say?

"We have always found Acoustic Associates to be a very reliable & professional company" - Stephen Packham of Packham Construction Ltd.

We are regularly called in by organisations such as Berkeley Homes and Hyde Housing Association to advise on acoustic issues, but also...

We are also able to provide the following complementary design services:

  • ‍New-build design reviews and site inspections, to ensure that proposed constructions and detailing of a new building will comply with the acoustic targets of the project. This service will minimise the risk of a sound test failure.
  • Reverberation time assessments for communal areas, as required by Document E of the Building Regulations.
Excessive reverberance is a common problem in community halls and suchlike, leading to poor audibility or speech intelligibility. This also impacts upon the rental revenue that can be achieved for such spaces and so the cost of good acoustic design and treatment can be recouped quite quickly in many cases.
  • Design stage advice for specifications to achieve acoustic requirements.
  • Pre-planning stage noise assessments for road or rail traffic noise in support of planning applications.
